HERE the Chorus repeats twice – the first is reflecting on his Ex because she wouldn’t take him back after trying to be vulnerable with her, the second is reflecting on his rebound because he ruined that relationship too. Yet “Now” he also misses his “rebound” because they were helping him get over his Ex.Ģnd Chorus – He “now” misses the rebound because he was able to be vulnerable with her and loved how she loved him.īridge – At night he sleeps and fantasizes about how his Ex’s (Plural) used to really love him, but will fall victim once again to the pain when he wakes up and they aren’t there. The added word here is “NOW”, “Now, I need somebody to know…” in his selfishness he realizes in his relationships it was all about him and he is realizing that he took his Ex and rebound for granted not putting effort into understanding them.

The “Somebody” he needs is just a rebound finding someone more broken than he taking the wrong advise to move on with someone else yet even the rebound doesn’t understand his pain, and unfortunately the only person that can numb the pain is his SO who he left for his own selfish reasons.ġst Chorus - This rebound he turned to, opening up and pouring out his heart to left him because he never healed from his Ex not being able to give his all to his rebound gal. V1 - “Going Under”, Falling victim to the memories yet even friends nor family can't numb the pain, “All or nothing” this was an ultimatum from his SO and he is stressing. And the situation is made more unbearable, considering, as alluded to earlier, that everyday life itself does not seem to be something Capaldi particularly enjoys. The aftershocks of being left alone are paining Lewis not only due to his depression but also the fact that he was getting accustomed to being the recipient of his significant other’s care and love. However, based on the lyrics, it seems that Capaldi lost her unexpectedly. How their relationship ended is not really made clear in the song. He has no one around who cares enough to help him deal with these issues. But now that their relationship has dissolved, he is basically defenseless. In the past, this would have apparently been granted to him by his girlfriend.
He is in a pretty dark place and badly needs regular emotional support. And this psychological challenge is most likely depression. He is obviously dealing with some sort of psychological issue. Capaldi misses the benefits he enjoyed while he was with his significant other, when he was actually someone that she loved. To put things succinctly, in “Someone You Loved” Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi is lamenting over a lost love.
